THE STORY
Where does the name "Seony Days Art" come from?
Seony Days Art ("pronounced Sunny") is a faith-based creative studio started by visionary artist Jillian O'Brien. "The name "Seony Days" combines my Korean name "Seon" and my new life in Christ. The name is an inspiration of hope, that the storms in life can produce the most beautiful rainbows as long as we have the God's light. Just like all of his creations we need light to survive and develop. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. - John 1:5 -"
Why do you create?
I create because I was gifted with creative talents that are meant to be shared with the world to heal, uplift and glorify heaven. When we shine bright we ignite others to do the same. "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." - Matthew 5:16 -Art has an amazing power to transform lives. A dead blank or meaningless white canvas comes alive and brought to life. A dormant seed of an idea that is watered with creativity.
What is your background as a creative?
I grew up in Northeast Minneapolis, immersed in the vibrant arts and dance community, and earned dual degrees in Graphic Design and Journalism from Drake University. For over a decade, I honed my skills as a commercial designer, eventually launching my own business, SooInDesign, and living in Hawaii while pursuing my goal of thriving as an artist.Through this journey, God drew me closer and called me to a higher purpose—to use my creative gifts to honor and glorify Him. Answering that call, I transitioned from the corporate world to start Seony Days Art, a faith-centered art studio dedicated to inspiring, uplifting, and spreading hope.
What styles and materials are you influenced by?
My favorite medium is gouache. I use a mix of mediums such as watercolor, colored pencils, acrylic, markers, ink, pastels and CAD. I am heavily influenced by my adventure from travels, maximalism, fauvism, arts & crafts movement, and botanical and floral art.
What is your inspiration for your art?
My creative works are a worship to God and his beautiful creations. A nod and reverence to our ultimate intelligent creator and source of all life - God. "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. - Romans 1:20 -"
I am a visionary artist who is inspired by the "Garden of Eden" and "Millenial Age" descriptions of the bible of life before the fall and the promised future paradise of restorative harmony with nature and God. A garden is an enclosed placed dedicated to cultivating and enjoying plants and nature. God naturally designed us to live in the garden and humanity often groans for that restorative relationship with creation. A garden is a life for humanity as it provides food and nutrition, healing and improving mental & physical well-being, preservation of biodiversity, creating a sense of purpose and community, enhancing beauty and aesthetics, materials for food, clothing, housing, tools for building, and crafts.
What is the purpose of for your art?
My art speaks themes of healing and restoration, environmental conservation and justice for the oppressed. I want to bring healing to humanity body, mind, soul and spirit. I want to inspire and bring the hope of full restoration of the harmony with nature and God. "Open your mouth for the people who cannot speak, For the rights of all the unfortunate."- Proverbs 31:8 - My art is to uplift the broken, vulnerable, rejected, marginalized, discarded, abandoned, injured, addicted, abused, orphaned, laid off, displaced, mentally ill, homeless, poor, indebted, crippled, sick, trafficked, robbed, children, elderly, had major surgery, suicidal, widowed, oppressed, disabled, unrightly imprisoned, war torn, fleeing violence and murder, persecuted, experienced an unplanned pregnancy, adopted, refugeed, separated or lost family, miscarried, had death of child or parent
My creative process?
My work is inspired by the Holy Spirit with the purpose of revealing God’s heart, encouraging others, or conveying a spiritual message.
-
Spirit-led – The Holy Spirit leads to guide the process, themes, and imagery.
-
Encouragement & edification – The goal is often to uplift, comfort, or speak truth into someone’s life.
(1 Corinthians 14:3)
-
Symbolism – Colors, shapes, images, or even abstract forms can carry spiritual meaning.
